Planning Your Academic Year
Although members of the Studio live in a wide range of geographic locations, the vast majority are in North America and various Western European countries. Some members of the Studio are employed on contracts that require them to teach in the summer. Some of you will have sabbatical or research leave for one or more semesters. Some of you are doing academic work alongside another form of employment.
For most of you, the academic year begins in the Autumn (perhaps as early as mid-August or as late as October) and is usually divided into two teaching semesters, the second of which starts in January or February. By May or June you are transitioning into the long summer break, which isn’t the vacation your neighbours think it is but more like an opportunity to shift your focus away from teaching. In recognition of this shared annual cycle, I offer planning classes at key transition points.
